Media: Child Killed in Israeli Strike on Gaza

28 January

A five-year-old girl was killed, and three others were injured on Monday evening when Israeli forces fired on a horse-drawn cart in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, according to the Palestinian news agency WAFA.

The report states that the soldiers opened fire on civilians returning to their homes in northern Gaza.

Earlier, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) issued a statement explaining that its forces "acted against individuals who posed a threat to troops operating in the Gaza Strip."

"In several areas of Gaza, a number of suspects were identified approaching IDF forces and presenting a threat. Troops fired warning shots to create distance. In northern Gaza, one suspect continued to pose a threat despite the warning shots, prompting additional fire to neutralize the threat," the IDF statement said.

According to Palestinian authorities, more than 300,000 people returned to northern Gaza on January 27 after being allowed to do so.
