Media: in Mali, militants killed three soldiers

10 September 2020

Three Malian army soldiers were killed in the North-West of the country in the immediate vicinity of the border with Mauritania, the Malian newspaper Le Journal du Mali reports with reference to the communique of the command of the Armed forces of the Republic.

"An army patrol was ambushed by terrorists in the Diabaly sector of the Segou district in the afternoon of September 9," the document says. "Three soldiers were killed, five more were missing, and two army vehicles were destroyed."

The attack took place near the area where an army unit was ambushed on September 4. The militants killed 10 soldiers, including one officer. On the border between Mali and Mauritania, there are detachments of the Islamist terrorist group "Jamaat Nusrat al-Islam Wal-Muslimin" (JNIM), which was formed in the spring of 2017 and has close ties with al-Qaeda (banned in the Russian Federation).

Since the military seized power in Mali on August 18, military casualties have approached two dozen.
