Media: Iranian President Calls on Leaders of 50 Countries to Exert Pressure on Israel

20 November 2023

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has reached out to leaders of 50 countries, including the President of the Russian Federation, the Chairman of the People's Republic of China, and leaders of Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Turkey, and South Africa. In his letter, as reported by IRNA news agency, Raisi urged these leaders to exert pressure on Israel, calling for unity and coordination to compel a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

"Our countries should use all available means, including the suspension of trade and political interactions with Israel. By doing so, we can play a more significant role in bringing an end to Israeli offenses in Gaza," as reported by IRNA, quoting a passage from President Raisi's letter.

On November 11, during an extraordinary joint summit of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Riyadh, the Iranian president urged Islamic countries to sever economic ties with Israel. He proposed imposing sanctions on the Jewish state, including an embargo on oil imports.
