Media: Qatar Strike Raises Doubts over US Role in the Middle East

12 September

Arab states now question the reliability of the United States as a partner and security guarantor in the Middle East following Israel’s strike on Qatar, according to a report by The Globe and Mail.

The paper notes, “America’s role in the Persian Gulf has suddenly entered a crisis.” After the Israeli attack, doubt among Gulf Arab states about Washington’s credibility as a security partner has increased, as the US “did nothing to stop or later punish Israel.”

The Globe and Mail recalls that the US also failed to react to Iran’s strikes against Saudi Aramco sites in 2019 and Houthi drone attacks in the UAE in 2020. Now, as Qatar itself has “come under attack,” once again, Washington’s response was “the same: no answer.”
