The Greek Orthodox Church of St. Porphyrios in Gaza has been destroyed by Israeli bombardment, potentially trapping dozens of individuals beneath the rubble, the Naftemporiki newspaper reported, citing sources within Gaza.

According to the publication, sources connected to the church suggest that numerous Palestinians, including parishioners seeking shelter from airstrikes and internally displaced individuals from both northern and southern Gaza, may have perished beneath the remains of one of Gaza's oldest churches. The sources estimate that approximately 1,000 people were inside the St. Porphyrios Church, as well as a nearby school and other facilities in Gaza.

Earlier, ERT-1 TV channel, referencing the Gaza Interior Ministry, reported that the St. Porphyrios Church in Gaza was destroyed in an Israeli bombardment, killing a girl and wounding many. The TV channel indicated that roughly 50 people were present in the church, with a majority being children and women.

In addition, Al Jazeera's correspondent in Gaza City reported that at least two individuals were killed, and dozens were wounded in the church strike. The number of people seeking refuge in the temple reached into the hundreds.
