Media: Turkish and Saudi Foreign Ministers Discuss Next Phase of Gaza Peace Plan

13 January

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has held a phone call with his Saudi counterpart, Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, to discuss preparations for the second phase of the Gaza settlement plan, a source in the Turkish Foreign Ministry told TASS.

According to the source, Fidan and bin Farhan spoke on 13 January about bilateral relations as well as “preparations for the second phase of the peace plan to resolve the situation in Gaza.”

Fidan had earlier said he expected the composition of a “Peace Council” for Gaza to be announced soon and stressed the importance of swiftly forming an interim administrative committee made up of Palestinians to govern the enclave.  He also noted that Turkey is ready, in principle, to contribute troops to an international stabilization force in Gaza and is in contact with partners on the issue, but underlined that no concrete decisions have yet been taken.
