Turkish army artillery opened fire on the outskirts of the town of Tell Tamer in the northwestern Syrian province of Al Hasakah on Monday. This was reported by the ANF Kurdish news agency.
According to its information, there are civilian casualties in the settlements of Al-Qusliya and Tell Laban as a result of the shelling, their number is being specified. Tell Tamer (630 km from Damascus) is located on the strategic M4 highway that connects the western and eastern regions of Syria. Turkish troops are firing at the area from their positions in the border town of Ras al-Ayn, where there is an outpost of the Ankara-backed Syrian opposition units.
The military action, which is continuing for the second month, has forced Assyrian and Kurdish families living in Tell Tamer to leave their homes and move deeper into the province to safer areas. A total of 27 settlements are now in the line of fire in the Khabur River Valley, which flows in this region in northeastern Syria. All of them are in the hands of Kurdish units from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
On July 6, the Kurdish Autonomous Administration declared a state of emergency in the territories under its control due to the threat of an invasion by Turkish troops. Damascus sent military reinforcements and armored vehicles to the northern areas at the Kurds' request.
