Minnikhanov Attends the 21st International Muslim Forum in Moscow

15 December

Rais of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov took part in the 21st International Muslim Forum in Moscow, held under the theme “Peace and Trust in an Era of Deglobalization: An Islamic Perspective on Global Challenges.”

Organized by the Religious Board of Muslims of Russia, the forum brought together political, religious, and academic leaders to discuss how deglobalization is reshaping global politics, economies, and cultural relations.

Speaking at the event, Minnikhanov said the forum’s agenda closely reflects current global realities. He noted that the Muslim world, which accounts for more than a quarter of the global population, is increasingly influential in shaping emerging international frameworks.

He also pointed out that this year marks two decades since Russia became an observer in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. "Islam has long been an integral part of Russia’s history and identity, with Muslim communities playing a vital role in the country’s development. The cooperation with the Islamic world is a long-term strategic priority for Russia", he pointed out.

Minnikhanov reminded participants that, at the direction of President Vladimir Putin, he heads the Group of Strategic Vision  “Russia–Islamic World,” which serves as a platform for dialogue among politicians, scholars, public figures, and religious leaders.

"The decision by the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) to name Kazan the Cultural Capital of the Islamic World in 2026 means a lot," Minnikhanov said, calling it an important recognition of both Tatar history and Russia’s model of interfaith coexistence.

Concluding his remarks, Minnikhanov invited forum participants to visit Kazan in 2026 to take part in the cultural and international events planned for the occasion.
