Relations between Russia and the Islamic world have historically been known for their high level of trust and cooperation. Tatarstan President and Chairman of the Group of Strategic Vision "Russia - Islamic World" Rustam Minnikhanov said this in his greeting to the participants of the International Conference "Russia - Islamic World: Practical Steps in Media Cooperation," which is taking place in Moscow on Thursday.
"It is pleasing that today this cooperation is not only preserved but also acquires a new dynamic. This is evidenced by regular events held by the GSV "Russia-Islamic World"," said the president of the Republic of Tatarstan.
He separately thanked Russian and Islamic world journalists for the coverage of events dedicated to the 1,100th anniversary of the adoption of Islam by the Volga Bulgaria. According to the decision of Russian President Vladimir Putin, anniversary events were held at the state level in many regions of the country.
Cooperation with Muslim countries through mass media is one of the key aspects of Russia's international policy, Minnikhanov stressed. This cooperation is especially relevant in terms of countering the spread of misinformation, as well as spreading traditional spiritual values.
"I am convinced that this meeting will facilitate an objective exchange of opinions," he summed up.
The organizers of the International Conference "Russia - Islamic World: Practical Steps in Media Cooperation" are the Group of Strategic Vision "Russia - Islamic World", the International News Agency Sputnik, the Union of OIC News Agencies (UNA).
Key questions to be discussed include the current state of cooperation between media outlets of Russia and the Islamic world; possibilities of implementing joint programs/projects/initiatives in the media field; additional measures for more efficient media cooperation in the future; the venue and topics of the next "Russia - Islamic world" conference for the journalists and its topic.
The speakers of the event will include Deputy Chairman of the GSV "Russia - Islamic World", Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Farit Mukhametshin; Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Grigory Karasin; Director of the Information Development Department of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Wajdi Sindi; Director-General of the Union of OIC News Agencies Mohammed Al-Yami; Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Ramazan Abdulatipov, and others.
The event will also be attended by leading reporters, experts, representatives of media companies and news agencies from Muslim countries and the Russian Federation.
