Minnikhanov: Tatarstan helps Eurasian integration by linking Russia with the Islamic world

21 May 2021

Tatarstan actively participates in Eurasian integration by implementing projects with Central Asian states. The republic is also represented in the Group of Strategic Vision "Russia - Islamic World", which strengthens the ties of our country with the Islamic world. This was announced by the President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov at the platform of the Valdai Discussion Club.

In his speech the head of the republic reminded that Tatarstan had repeatedly become a platform for building ties between the states of Central Asia.

In April 2021, Kazan hosted the meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council at the level of heads of governments. In June, the 9th Kazan International Congress of Eurasian Integration with the participation of Russian parliamentarians, academic and expert community will take place. In September 2021, Kazan plans to host the First CIS Games, and in 2022 the capital of Tatarstan will host the 45th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee.

"Tatarstan actively participates in the work of the Group of Strategic Vision "Russia - Islamic World". Its activities are aimed at strengthening Russia's relations with Muslim countries, establishing a broad partnership in the interaction of cultures and civilizations, overcoming crises and conflicts arising on the basis of religious and ethnic differences. On instructions from President Putin, I chair this representative structure," the President of Tatarstan reminded.

Rustam Minnikhanov reminded that the GSV implements a number of economic and humanitarian projects.

"The developing trade and economic ties contribute to strengthening the strategic partnership with Central Asian states. I should also note that Tatarstan more and more often acts as a platform for holding large all-Russian and international forums and conferences. The conference opening today is another confirmation of this," said the leader of the republic.

In his speech, Rustam Minnikhanov reminded that Tatarstan is among Russia's leading regions thanks to its strong economic potential and interethnic harmony.

"The components of our success are a strong economic potential, effective interaction with various states and regions within the framework of a single nationwide policy, interethnic and inter-confessional peace and civil accord," the republic's leader explained.

The President of Tatarstan pointed out that stability and good-neighborly relations between representatives of different nations and confessions are not just a historically established tradition. "Today it is a subject of constant work of state authorities, local self-government, civil society institutions, academic and expert communities," he stressed.

Rustam Minnikhanov reminded that the Republic of Tatarstan is multinational, like Russia as a whole.

"Everything valuable that has been developed by this or that nation over a long historical period becomes part of the common culture of peoples who live in one state and are connected by close ties of economic, political and cultural cooperation.  It is important to preserve the high moral guidelines of each ethnos, to multiply its achievements, to preserve languages, culture and traditions. It's the basis of social development," said the President of Tatarstan.

The meeting of the Valdai International Club opened Thursday in Kazan. The main topic of the discussion is “Russia and Central Asia Facing the Challenges of the New World — A Joint Path to the Future”.  More than 60 experts from 16 countries - Russia, Afghanistan, Belarus, Great Britain, Hungary, Germany, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, France and Estonia - participate in the conference.
