Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin stated that the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) has the necessary advantages to effectively counter protectionist policies, unilateral sanctions, and trade wars. He made the remarks during a meeting of CIS delegation heads with the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon.
“The world is currently experiencing turbulence as a new multipolar architecture takes shape. Protectionism is intensifying, tariff wars are escalating, and many countries are facing increasing sanctions pressure,” Mishustin said. “An effective response to these challenges lies in fully leveraging the strengths of our member states to boost cooperation across sectors — essential for achieving technological and industrial sovereignty and improving quality of life.”
He emphasized that Russia is strongly committed to enhancing cooperation with CIS countries, calling it an “unconditional priority.” According to Mishustin, trade and economic ties across the CIS are growing, with significant joint projects underway. In 2023, Russia’s trade turnover with CIS countries grew by 7%, surpassing 10 trillion rubles.
Commenting on Tajikistan’s chairmanship of the CIS in 2025, Mishustin highlighted that its key priorities include strengthening economic links, expanding transport and logistics corridors, and enhancing humanitarian cooperation. “These objectives fully align with the CIS’s long-term strategic goals,” he noted, adding that Russia is ready to provide comprehensive support to help achieve them.
He concluded by expressing gratitude to President Rahmon for the warm welcome and the well-organized CIS Council of Heads of Government meeting in Dushanbe. Mishustin also conveyed greetings and best wishes from President Vladimir Putin to all attendees.
