Mishustin to Continue EAEU Engagements on Day Two of Kyrgyzstan Visit

15 August

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin is continuing his official visit to Kyrgyzstan. In Cholpon‑Ata, the resort town on Lake Issyk‑Kul, he has already held talks with Kyrgyz Cabinet Chairman Adylbek Kasymaliev and President Sadyr Japarov.

On the second day of the trip, the prime minister will continue taking part in events under the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). Yesterday, EAEU heads of government met in a restricted format at the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council (EIC); today’s session is expected to be in an expanded format with full delegations, allowing for more substantial statements from member countries.

Alongside Mishustin, the EIC meeting will include Belarusian Prime Minister Alexander Turchin, Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, and Kyrgyzstan’s Prime Minister Adylbek Kasymaliev. Armenia will be represented by Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan.

Heads of government from EAEU observer states will also participate: Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref and Uzbekistan’s Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov, with Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero joining by video link.

According to the Russian government’s press service, the agenda will cover “pressing tasks for deepening integration” within the EAEU, including customs regulation, transport, exchange trading, the creation of common markets for medicines and medical devices, and environmental protection. The program for developing exchange trading on the EAEU’s common commodity market is expected to be approved.

The prime ministers will also review updates to the action plan for implementing the union’s coordinated transport policy and discuss approaches to regulating the climate agenda.
