Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin visited the Russia-Tajikistan secondary school named after Yuri Gagarin in Dushanbe on Thursday.
It is one of five schools with teaching in Russian that have been built in the republic under the agreement between the governments of the two countries. There are four more such schools in Bokhtar, Kulyab, Khujand and Tursunzade.
The building of the Gagarin School was built at the expense of the Russian Federation. The school works according to Russian standards, but taking into account the national component, including the state language of Tajikistan, geography, and history of the country. The curriculum of Russian schools for teaching children whose native language is not Russian was adopted as a basis.
The head of the cabinet, in particular, visited the Russian language and literature classroom, where he talked to teachers and children. "Guys, do you like studying here? Who is the top student?" - he asked. The prime minister asked the students what their favorite subjects were and what they wanted to become. One of the boys said he wanted to be an economist and an entrepreneur. "Businessman? There is no such profession. There is a way of thinking. I'm kidding, of course. Entrepreneur - that's great," Mishustin commented playfully, praising the boy.
He also visited the canteen: like in all schools in Russia, junior high school students are provided a hot meal for free. The rest have to pay - in Russian rubles a set lunch costs about 120 rubles. The menu is developed for 2 weeks at once, is coordinated with parents and representatives of the community. It includes national ingredients. For example, plov is cooked here with chicken.
Also, the school offers real space food in tubes - for this purpose a separate buffet is organized. The cost of such a lunch is the same as for usual meals. Mishustin praised the school for the idea and recalled an episode from the Soviet movie "Gentlemen of Fortune", where breakfast in kindergarten was staged by a rocket flight. "The rocket won't return to Earth before lunch. Take space spoons," he quoted. The Russian prime minister also visited the gymnasium, the library, and the assembly hall, which seats more than 1,200 people.
About the school
Currently, 960 students are studying here: 945 citizens of Tajikistan (61 of them have dual citizenship) and 15 citizens of Russia. There are 59 teachers.
The school has 71 classrooms, two computer labs. It is also equipped with the assembly hall, choreography and sports halls, swimming pools, libraries, and book storehouses. In addition, there is a memorial dedicated to the first cosmonaut of the planet, Yuri Gagarin, in honor of whom the school is named.
