The next meeting of the Moscow format on Afghanistan will be convened on October 20., Zamir Kabulov, the Russian president's special representative for Afghanistan and director of the Second Asia department of the Russian foreign ministry, told reporters on Thursday.

Kabulov also said that the expanded "troika" (Russia, US, China, Pakistan) on Afghanistan will hold a meeting in October. "[The meeting] is planned," he said.
Responding to a clarifying question, Kabulov added that the meeting will take place "a little earlier" than before the end of October.
Kabulov also said that a decision in principle on Russia's provision of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan has been made, and the details of the deliveries are being worked out. "This is being worked out. Several agencies are involved. A principal decision has been made, the agencies are collecting shipments. It will be," he said when asked if and when humanitarian aid will be provided to Afghanistan.
The Moscow format was established in 2017 on the basis of a six-party consultation mechanism of special representatives of Russia, Afghanistan, China, Pakistan, Iran and India.
The Taliban (banned in the Russian Federation) launched a large-scale operation to take control of Afghanistan after the US announced in the spring of this year the decision to withdraw its armed forces from there. On August 15, the radicals entered Kabul without any fighting, and president Ashraf Ghani left the country. On 6 September, the Taliban declared that they had taken control of the entire territory of Afghanistan and announced the composition of the provisional government on 7 September.
