The Moscow authorities are ready to share their experience in urban planning policy, which can be applied to the construction of the new capital city, with their colleagues from Jakarta. Deputy Head of the Department for External Economic and International Relations of Moscow Vyacheslav Manuilov told a press conference in TASS on Friday.
"Regarding <...> the project of building the new capital of Indonesia, I would like to wish our colleagues success in implementing such a large-scale project, and I would also like to note that Moscow is ready to cooperate in this area. From our side we have already sent an invitation to our Indonesian colleagues and specialists, who will be responsible for the preparation of planning decisions, construction companies, to visit Moscow to exchange experience," said Manuilov.
The deputy head of the department pointed out Moscow's great experience in designing and construction of the city infrastructure, transport potential development, creation of modern and comfortable public spaces, "smart" city technologies implementation. According to him, sharing such experience would be useful. "I would also like to wish our colleagues to do everything properly from the very beginning, they have every opportunity to do so," the speaker stressed.
President Widodo announced plans to move Indonesia's capital from Jakarta in 2019. Almost $32 billion was allocated for this purpose. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the project was suspended, it is planned to resume in 2024. The new capital of Indonesia, which will appear in the southeast of the island of Kalimantan, it was decided to name it Nusantara, which means "archipelago".
Experience exchange
"From the point of view of developing the cooperation between Moscow and Jakarta, I would like to mention that we are also interested in the considerable experience of Jakarta, which has been accumulated in various areas, first of all, in the creation of smart city solutions. <...> Jakarta has a large number of such "smart" solutions for city management, Jakarta's experience in environmental protection, in working with production and consumption waste, in working with waste water is very interesting. So there are a lot of topics and directions, we hope for an early visit of the leadership of the city of Jakarta in Moscow," said Manuilov.
He added that "Moscow is doing its best to increase the number of tourists from Indonesia, who come to the Russian Federation." The city authorities rely on the support of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia to the Russian Federation and Belarus Jose Antonio Morato Tavares.
The deputy head of the profile department of the capital also noted that on the eve of the EEU-Indonesia business dialogue was successfully held in Moscow. "[It] was an excellent opportunity to discuss priority tasks in terms of deepening cooperation with our partners in Indonesia, and very actively discussed the development of partnership between Moscow and Jakarta," he said.
Manuilov specified that between the Russian and Indonesian capitals a cooperation program was signed, which touches upon almost all topics of urban development, from economy, housing and utilities, transport, education to social and cultural aspects and projects. "This cooperation is very active. During the pandemic, when our face-to-face contacts were limited, Moscow and Jakarta accumulated considerable experience in implementing remote work scenarios, remote study, fine-tuning of telemedicine, transport work, <...> now is the right time to exchange these developments," he concluded.
Indonesia is located on the largest archipelago in the world, which consists of 18 thousand islands.
