Russia supports the decision to reopen the oil industry in Libya, the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova told a briefing.

"We welcome the resumption of the oil industry in Libya. It was adopted in Benghazi on August 16 by commander Khalifa Haftar during a joint meeting with members of the Board of the Libyan National Oil Corporation and the leadership of the Arabian Gulf Oil Corporation," she said.

Zakharova added that Russia expected that revenues from the export of hydrocarbons would be distributed transparently and fairly between the regions of the country in the interests of the entire Libyan people.

Oil production in most fields in the country actually stopped about six months ago. The cessation of raw material production and the closure of oil loading ports in the East of the country, according to the National Oil Corporation (NOC), brought the country losses of more than $6.5 billion.
