Nebenzya: Africa Is Tired of Western Arrogance and Double Standards

23 April

African nations are increasingly weary of the arrogance and double standards displayed by their former Western colonial powers, said Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, during the plenary session of the 4th “Russia–Africa: What’s Next?” forum.

“We believe that many of the crises currently affecting African countries stem from years of colonial rule and lingering neocolonial practices. There is a visible fatigue across the continent from the condescending behavior and double standards of the former Western European metropolises,” Nebenzya stated in a video message to forum participants.

He emphasized that African countries are no longer willing to tolerate this status quo and reiterated Russia’s consistent stance against neocolonial approaches.

“Trust in the collective West as a reliable partner is declining globally, while the demand for fundamental changes to the current international order is growing. We’re seeing more examples of successful cooperation through independent multilateral platforms such as the Non-Aligned Movement,” he added.

Nebenzya also underlined the need for the UN Security Council to reflect the rising role of African nations in world affairs and adjust accordingly.
