Nebenzya: Russia Sees No Progress in Trump’s Gaza Peace Plan

25 March

Russia has yet to see any practical implementation of the Gaza peace plan proposed by US President Donald Trump, and the lack of progress on this issue could spark a new cycle of violence, Vasily Nebenzya, the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, said during a Security Council meeting on the Middle East.

"Broadly speaking, we must state that we see no evidence of the implementation of Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan, which was endorsed by UN Security Council Resolution 2803," Nebenzya said. "We recognize that the current regional escalation makes it difficult to create the right conditions for setting up transitional structures or forming an international stabilization force in Gaza. At the same time, the lack of progress—specifically the absence of a clear plan for these stabilization forces, the withdrawal of Israeli troops, and the transfer of power to the Palestinian National Authority—could trigger yet another round of armed conflict."

The Russian envoy also noted that the exclusion of Ramallah from the political settlement process was both "disappointing and perplexing," pointing out that their representatives were not even invited to participate in the Peace Council. "All of this serves to undermine American peace efforts. We urge the mediators to do everything in their power to reach a negotiated solution that genuinely reflects the interests of all sides," Nebenzya added.
