New Afghan Ambassador to Arrive in Moscow on July 1

01 July

The new Ambassador of Afghanistan to Russia is expected to arrive in Moscow on the evening of July 1 and will officially assume his duties after completing standard protocol procedures. This was confirmed to TASS by Russian Presidential Envoy for Afghanistan and Foreign Ministry Adviser Zamir Kabulov.

“To our knowledge, the new ambassador will arrive in Moscow this evening,” Kabulov said, following recent UN-led meetings in Doha focused on counter-narcotics and private sector development in Afghanistan.

Once the new ambassador completes protocol formalities, he will begin functioning as Afghanistan’s official ambassador to Russia.

On May 16, on the sidelines of the “Russia–Islamic World: KazanForum,” Kabulov announced that Kabul had submitted its ambassadorial nominee to the Russian side. Afghanistan's embassy in Moscow later confirmed that Mawlawi Gul Hassan had been appointed to lead the diplomatic mission.

On April 17, Russia’s Supreme Court suspended the ban on the Taliban’s activities in the country. According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, lifting the terrorist designation opens the way for full-scale bilateral cooperation between Moscow and Kabul in the interests of both peoples.
