A new round of talks on normalizing relations between Turkey and Armenia will be held in Vienna on July 1, the Turkey's MFA informed on Tuesday.
"The fourth meeting of special representatives of Turkey and Armenia on the normalization of relations, Serdar Kilic and Ruben Rubinyan, will be held in Vienna on July 1, 2022," the Turkish MFA said.
The Armenian foreign ministry also confirmed on Tuesday that the meeting with the Turkish representative will take place on July 1 in Vienna. "The next meeting of the special representatives of Armenia and Turkey within the framework of the normalization process between Armenia and Turkey will be held on July 1 in Vienna," the foreign ministry said in a statement.
On the eve, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at a press conference that Armenia and Turkey are trying to normalize relations by small steps. He reminded that Ankara links this process with the normalization of relations between Yerevan and Baku.
There are no diplomatic relations between Turkey and Armenia and the border between the two countries has been closed since 1993 at Ankara's initiative. The difficult relations between the countries are caused by a number of circumstances, in particular, Ankara's support of the Azerbaijani position on the Karabakh problem and Turkey's acute reaction to the process of international recognition of the Armenian genocide of 1915 in the Ottoman Empire.
On January 14, special envoys on the Armenia-Turkey normalization process - Armenian Parliamentary Vice President Ruben Rubinyan and former Turkish Ambassador to the US Serdar Kilic met in Moscow for the first time. The Russian foreign ministry reports that during the talks the sides expressed their readiness to hold a constructive and non-politicized dialogue. The next two meetings were held on February 24 and May 3 in Vienna.
