Niger rebels appoint Economist Ali Lamine Zeine as Prime Minister

Niger's rebel governing body, the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland (CNSP), announced on Monday the appointment of Ali Lamine Zeine, a 58-year-old economist and former finance minister, as the prime minister. This information was reported by the Al Hadath TV channel.

 

Zeine hails from the city of Zinder in southern Niger. Prior to becoming the head of Niger's government, he served as the representative of the African Development Bank (ADB) in N'Djamena, Chad. He had previously held the position of ADB representative in Côte d'Ivoire and Gabon.

 

Between 2003 and 2010, Zeine occupied the role of Minister of Finance in Niger.
