Niger's Leader Hosts Russian Delegation Led by Deputy Defense Minister Yevkurov

Brigadier General Abdourahamane Tchiani, head of Niger's ruling National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland (CNSP), recently welcomed a distinguished Russian delegation led by Russian Deputy Defense Minister Colonel General Yunus-Bek Yevkurov. A report published on the official page of the NDCN on X (formerly Twitter) announced the meeting.

 

"The head of Niger's ruling National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland, Brigadier General Abdourahamane Tchiani, received a high-ranking Russian delegation led by Russian Deputy Defense Minister Colonel General Yunus-Bek Yevkurov," - the report stated. - "The Russian Deputy Defense Minister engaged in productive discussions with Niger's Minister of State for National Defense, Corps General Salifou Modi. Following the meeting, a memorandum on multi-sectoral cooperation between the Republic of Niger and the Russian Federation was signed, underscoring the excellent bilateral relations between the two nations."

 

The meeting was attended by prominent representatives of the Nigerian government, including Brigadier General Mohamed Toumba, Minister of State for Interior, Public Security, and Territorial Administration, Col. Amadou Bacharou Ibro, Head of the Personal General Staff of the CNSP Chairman, and Suman Boubacar, Chief of Staff to the CNSP Chairman. "This underscores the significance that the Nigerian authorities attribute to this visit and cooperation with the Russian Federation," the statement emphasized.

 

"Discussions between President Tchiani and Russian Deputy Defense Minister Yevkurov explored prospects for enhancing bilateral cooperation across various domains, including security, defense, and economic development," - the report continued. - "Both parties reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening strategic partnership based on mutual respect, trust, and collaborative approaches to regional and international challenges."

 

Colonel General Yunus-Bek Yevkurov commended the efforts undertaken by Niger's government to uphold peace, stability, and development in the country. He reiterated the readiness of the Russian Federation to support Niger's legitimate aspirations and assist in achieving its strategic objectives. This meeting, the report highlighted, opens up new avenues for deepening relations between Niamey and Moscow. "President Tchiani expressed the gratitude of the people of Niger to the Russian Federation for its consistent and diverse support," the text noted. "He encouraged Russian entrepreneurs to increase investment in Niger and contribute to unlocking its vast potential."
