The trip is aimed at diversifying partnerships for Niger in various sectors such as defense, agriculture, energy, trade in oil, and medical equipment. The move reflects Niger's efforts to broaden its international relations under the new government.
In July 2023, Niger experienced a period of political turmoil when military officers from the presidential guard mutinied, claiming the removal of President Mohamed Bazoum from power. This led to the formation of the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland.
