Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold talks in Moscow on February 24 with Sadyr Zhaparov, who took office as president of Kyrgyzstan in January. The press service of the Kremlin announced this on Saturday.

This should be the third meeting of the Russian leader in a series of international negotiations in 2021. In early January, Putin discussed the situation around Nagorno-Karabakh with the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia, and on February 22 he is to meet with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.

"On February 24, 2021, Moscow will host talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov, who will be visiting Russia," the Kremlin said in a statement.

It is noted that the leaders plan to review the status and prospects for further development of Russian-Kyrgyz cooperation in political, trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian fields, as well as to discuss topical issues of cooperation within the framework of integration organizations in the Eurasian space.

Zhaparov's plans

According to the official website of the president of Kyrgyzstan, during his visit to Russia, Zhaparov also has bilateral meetings with the Speaker of the Federation Council, Valentina Matvienko, and the Speaker of the State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin. In addition, he intends to hold meetings with the Russian business community, as well as with compatriots and students from Kyrgyzstan studying in Russian universities.

Earlier, the Kyrgyz government newspaper Slovo Kyrgyzstana published an article by Zhaparov. In it, the country's leader stated that strengthening allied relations with Russia is in the national interest of Kyrgyzstan and that there is no alternative to this process. Thanks to the integration projects and its power, Russia "ensures peace along the perimeter of the state border and forms a dynamically developing region around itself," emphasized the president of the republic.

Early presidential elections were held in Kyrgyzstan on January 10. Zhaparov won in the first round, receiving 79.2 percent of the vote.
