More than 25,000 Syrian refugees have returned home from Turkey following the recent change in Syria's leadership, according to Turkey's Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya.
“Since December 8, after the leadership transition in Syria, over 25,000 refugees have returned to their homeland from Turkey. As of the latest data, out of 4.1 million foreigners legally residing in Turkey, 2.92 million are Syrians,” Yerlikaya stated during a meeting with editors from Anadolu Agency.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has previously announced plans to facilitate the return of approximately 1 million Syrian refugees who fled their country since 2011.
