The number of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (Taliban Movement of Pakistan, TTP) militants in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa ranges from 7,000 to 10,000. This was reported on Wednesday by the Doon daily with reference to the country's Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah.
According to him, there are currently 7,000 to 10,000 extremists on the territory of Pakistan's northwestern province, and about 25,000 members of their families are helping them. He blamed the provincial government and police for the growing insurgency in the region. "The main reason for what is happening is the failure of [the government] of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Anti-Terrorism Directorate <...>," the daily quoted Sanaullah as saying.
He also said that if the regional government could not cope with the terrorist threat itself, it could ask the federal government and the Pakistani army for help.
In Pakistan, terrorist attacks continue to increase after the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan announced it had ended its truce with the government of the Islamic republic that was in effect since June 2022.
