Palestine expects that Russia's special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine will lead to the formation of a multipolar world. Ismail Haniyeh, head of the Hamas Politburo, said this on Tuesday at a meeting with Grigory Karasin, head of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs.
"We are on the same page with Russia on the issue of fighting American hegemony. We are very interested in the fact that the Russian special military operation will eventually lead to a change in the world order, so that instead of a unipolar world led by the United States, a truly multipolar world is formed," he said.
According to the head of the Hamas Politburo, all countries in the Middle East would like to see US interest in the Middle East region reduced. "US policy is atrocious. There are plenty of examples of this, just look at what has happened in a number of Arab countries like Iraq, Yemen, Libya, Syria. We Palestinians have also suffered from the Americans," he pointed out. - "Another example is the sanctions Americans are imposing on Russia. They are trying to undermine Russia's position on the international arena. Therefore, we confirm our full solidarity [with] Russia in opposing these sanctions."
Haniyeh also noted the relevance of the delegation's visit to Moscow, especially in light of events related to "the situation in Ukraine and the Russian special military operation, as well as developments in the Palestinian track and the Middle East in general." "Our main message is a reaffirmation of Palestinian solidarity with the Russian people, with Russia in the fight against American hegemony. And this visit has political significance," he stressed.
On Monday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov received in Moscow a Hamas delegation led by Haniyeh. The sides discussed developments in the situation in the Middle East. On the same day, Mikhail Bogdanov, Russian President's Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa and Deputy Foreign Minister, held extensive consultations with the Hamas delegation.
