The United States is not rejecting a ministerial meeting of the "quartet" of international mediators in the Palestinian-Israeli settlement (Russia, the US, the EU and the UN), but so far no answer has been given as to the possible date of such a meeting, Palestinian Ambassador to Moscow Abdel Hafiz Nofal told TASS on Thursday on the sidelines of the Russia-Islamic World: KazanSummit 2021 economic summit.
"We are still waiting for [the US response]. <...> The American side is not refusing, but there is no agreement on a ministerial meeting of the quartet. That's the main thing. We are in contact online, there is communication every two or three weeks. But there is still no agreement," said the Ambassador.
He added that he does not undertake to predict the possible timing of the ministerial meeting. "The US side says they want to give the Israeli side, the new cabinet, enough time to sort it out on their own," Nofal explained. According to him, a meeting of the quartet of mediators would be "a signal to everyone that things are moving in the right direction."
The Russian side has previously repeatedly called for a ministerial meeting of the quartet to intensify the peace process between Palestine and Israel.
