Palestinian Asad Matar, who met with relatives evacuated from Gaza in Domodedovo, shared with reporters the extremely challenging food situation in the region.
"We recall the historical narrative: during the siege of Leningrad, everyone received one piece of bread each. In Gaza, they share a piece of date because they have nothing but dates," he said. According to him, there are only two bakeries for all of Gaza, and one has to wait in line for a long time to get bread. Food deliveries by truck have also ceased. "People yearn for at least unsalted water to drink," Asad added.
Journalist Khalid Eldirra, who arrived from Gaza, confirmed his statements. He described long queues lasting for hours for bread and the scarcity of other food items. "Having water is considered good, but it's the kind that gives you diarrhea all the time. Yet, that is still considered normal water," he said.
The young man lost several relatives who were killed in the bombings. He managed to miraculously escape, largely thanks to the Russian Emergencies Ministry personnel working tirelessly to evacuate Russian citizens from Gaza, "They are working without sleep," Khalid emphasized.
"I am afraid of one thing, it pains me to say this: if we look at all this in this way, perhaps our grandchildren will ask our children if there was such a city as Gaza," Asad concluded.
