The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned an attack by Israeli occupation forces on the United Nations headquarters in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza. This attack resulted in the death of a UN staff member and injuries to five others, according to Palestinian news agency WAFA.
“Israel's attacks on international institutions operating in Gaza constitute organized state terrorism, a systematic and large-scale policy aimed at undermining their work. Israel must be held accountable under international law,” the ministry stated. It also urged the international community to increase pressure on Israel to end its aggression and “genocide” against the Palestinian people while ensuring the protection of UN personnel and humanitarian workers.
UN Deputy Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Tom Fletcher called the killing of a UN staff member and the wounding of five others “outrageous.” He emphasized that the strikes targeted a “clearly marked” UN compound in Gaza and stated that the UN demands accountability.
Earlier, the Palestinian group Hamas denounced the attack as a “heinous crime,” accusing Israeli forces of deliberately targeting UN staff to intimidate humanitarian workers in Gaza.
