15 November 2023

Palestinian Health Minister Mai Al-Kaila declared that Israel's operation in Al-Shifa Hospital in the Gaza Strip is a crime against humanity. She held both the Jewish state and the international community responsible for the lives of people within the medical institution. This statement was issued in an official statement posted on the ministry's Telegram channel.

"The Israeli occupation and the international community bear responsibility for the lives of patients, medical staff, and displaced people within the Al-Shifa medical complex," Al-Kaila stated. According to her, the "occupation army's storming of the medical compound is a crime against humanity." The minister emphasized, "Thousands of patients, displaced individuals, and medical staff are currently uncertain about their fate."

The press service of the Gaza Strip authorities reported that there are currently nearly 9,000 people in the compound, including patients and wounded. The Israeli military initiated a ground operation on Wednesday night in the vicinity of the Al-Shifa medical center in the Gaza Strip. According to them, the main command headquarters of the Palestinian movement Hamas is located there. The Israel Defense Forces also claimed the presence of several underground compounds and a tunnel beneath the medical center building, where approximately 200 radicals are sheltering and holding hostages kidnapped during the October 7 attack.
