The leaders of Arab countries condemned Israel's violations of the ceasefire agreement in southern Lebanon and demanded that the Israeli government comply with UN Security Council Resolution 1701. The final declaration was published following the emergency summit of the Arab League, held on Tuesday in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital.
“The participants of the summit emphasize the need for the full implementation of all provisions of the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon and demand that Israel withdraw its forces to internationally recognized borders, as well as release all prisoners captured during the recent war,” the document states.
The declaration also expresses support for Lebanon’s sovereignty, stability, and security. “We consider it necessary for both sides to recommit to the armistice agreement between Lebanon and Israel, concluded in 1949,” the text reads.
Earlier, speaking at the summit, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun stated that “there will be no peace and stability in the Middle East as long as Arab lands in Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria remain under occupation.” “There can be no calm along the Lebanese-Israeli border until every last inch of our territory is liberated,” the president stressed.
