Representatives of the Berlin Conference on Libya stated that violation of the arms embargo in the country is unacceptable. This was announced on Monday by Acting Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Libya Stephanie Williams following the results of the high-level week of the UN General Assembly meeting on the Libyan settlement in Berlin format.
"The meeting welcomed the recent calm in hostilities and the actual establishment of a truce in Central Libya," Williams said. - They stressed the need for an immediate end to any military intervention in Libya and violations of the UN arms embargo," Williams said.
"The participants called on the Libyans to establish a demilitarized zone around Sirte as soon as possible, as well as to reach an agreement on a long-term ceasefire within the framework of the Joint Military Committee ("5+5") negotiations, which we plan to hold again in the coming weeks," the UN Secretary-General's acting special envoy added.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also pointed to the need for "full and unconditional implementation of the UN Security Council's decision on an arms embargo. "Violations of this embargo are scandalous and call into question the commitment to peace of all involved," he stressed.
As specified earlier in the Russian Foreign Ministry, the meeting was attended by the President's Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov.
