During a working visit instructed by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Nikolai Patrushev, the Russian Presidential Aide and Chairman of the Russian Maritime Board, has proposed establishing cooperation between the coastal regions of Russia and Indonesia.

The proposal was made at a meeting with the Governor of East Java province, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, held at the governor's residence in the port city of Surabaya. The talks were attended by a large Russian delegation comprising various ministries and major companies.

“The maritime economy plays a crucial role for your region. In this regard, I would suggest considering the establishment of partnership ties with one of Russia's coastal regions,” Patrushev stated. “Should you be open to the idea, we will select a suitable region and facilitate the initiation of a dialogue.”

The Russian presidential aide added that Russia is ready to implement a wide range of bilateral cooperation projects in East Java.
