Patrushev says West is trying to embezzle frozen Afghan assets

08 February 2023

The West is trying to seize Afghanistan's frozen assets in order, among other things, to send them to compensate the victims of the September 11, 2001-terrorist attacks, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev said Wednesday at the fifth multilateral meeting of security representatives on Afghan issues.

"Washington, London and their allies continue to block illegally frozen Afghan assets instead of directing them to humanitarian needs. Moreover, Westerners are attempting to steal these funds, including reserving part of them to pay compensation claims of relatives of the victims of the September 11 attacks, in which the Afghan people are not known to be involved," he pointed out.
