Peskov Criticizes IOC's “Double Standards” Regarding Russia and Indonesia

23 October

The International Olympic Committee's (IOC) position concerning Russia and Indonesia demonstrates clear double standards, according to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov.

“These are undoubtedly double standards,” Peskov stated in comments to Match TV, responding to questions about the IOC's recommendation for sports federations to avoid holding events in Indonesia, while not issuing similar statements against countries that previously denied visas to Russian athletes.

The IOC Executive Board had recommended that international sports federations refrain from hosting competitions in Indonesia after the country denied entry visas to Israeli gymnasts. Additionally, the IOC suspended discussions with Indonesia's National Olympic Committee about potentially hosting the 2036 Olympic Games and other IOC-sanctioned events.

This development follows Indonesian Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Penitentiary Affairs Yasonna Laoly's confirmation that Israeli athletes would not receive visas for the tournament in Jakarta scheduled for October 19-25. The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) acknowledged Indonesia's position, while Israel's appeals to the Court of Arbitration for Sport for emergency measures were rejected.
