Russian citizens and citizens of several other countries have been evacuated from Afghanistan by order of Russian President Vladimir Putin in connection with the current situation in the country, Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Thursday.

"There are not only citizens of Russia, but also citizens of some CSTO countries and from other countries. It is the evacuation of those citizens who were [living there], who need to leave the territory of Afghanistan given that it is extremely and extremely turbulent there," Peskov said in response to a related question.

Earlier on Thursday, the Russian Defense Ministry said that three military transport aircraft (MTA) of the Russian Air Force flew from the Chkalovsky airfield to evacuate more than 380 people from Afghanistan on instructions from Putin. As added in the Defense Ministry, each Russian airplane of the RAF carries medical and nursing teams of military doctors with the necessary medical equipment and medicines to provide necessary medical assistance and support.

On August 25 and 26, the aviation of the Russian Defense Ministry transported citizens of Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan from Afghanistan. The evacuation of more than 500 people was carried out by the Russian military department on instructions of Putin.
