Moscow remains committed to fostering peace, stability and security in the Caucasus and will continue developing its relations with both Baku and Yerevan. This was stated by Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov while addressing the mutual accusations of escalating tensions between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Peskov emphasized that the South Caucasus is a region of significant importance to Russia. “We seek peace, stability, predictability, mutual trust and security in the Caucasus. We highly value our good relations with both Azerbaijan and Armenia, and we are determined to do everything in our power to further strengthen these ties,” he said.
When asked whether Russian President Vladimir Putin had recently been in contact with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev or Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Peskov clarified, “There have been no contacts in the past few days.”
