The outcomes of the Russia-Africa summit in St. Petersburg underscore Russia's preparedness to exert significant efforts to enhance its competitiveness in Africa. Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian President, conveyed this perspective to reporters. He characterized the competition among various countries in their engagements with the African continent "as a standard procedure."
"To withstand this competition, we must engage in thorough and diligent work. It entails significant responsibility and substantial effort. The summit's results have demonstrated our readiness for such diligent efforts," emphasized the Kremlin spokesperson.
Peskov mentioned that this pertinent subject was addressed during a recent government meeting. "Minister [of Economic Development Maxim] Reshetnikov reported that the deliberations will center around the government's innovative and comprehensive strategy for fostering enhanced relations with diverse African nations," he further elaborated.
Responding to a journalist's query regarding the intense reaction from Washington towards Moscow's growing engagement with African counterparts, Peskov encouraged a more balanced perspective. "Undoubtedly, the African continent and its nations are among the most rapidly evolving in the world. It's a continent harboring immense untapped potential and actively seeking partners. This doesn't imply that African nations will exclusively align with us. Numerous countries vie with their strategies towards this region, and naturally, many nations display considerable enthusiasm in advancing their relations with African countries," underlined the Kremlin spokesperson. The second Russia-Africa summit took place in St. Petersburg from July 27 to 28.
