Peskov told about Putin and Bennett talks

22 October 2021

The first talks between Russian president Vladimir Putin and Israeli prime minister Naftali Bennett were lengthy and constructive, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told TASS.

"The talks are over. A very long, constructive and trusting conversation took place," the Kremlin spokesman said.

The meeting began in the morning in Sochi, where Bennett arrived on an official visit at the invitation of the Russian head of state. Peskov earlier said that the talks were held "in the atmosphere of warm relations'. The agenda included, in particular, the development of bilateral cooperation, regional security, the situation around Syria, Afghanistan and Iran.

Bennett was appointed prime minister of Israel on June 13, succeeding Benjamin Netanyahu, who had been in charge of the Israeli cabinet since 2009. Putin and Netanyahu have been in constant dialogue, holding numerous meetings and telephone conversations. The Russian president last visited Israel in January 2020.
