Peskov Urges US and Iran to Resolve All Issues Through Negotiations

04 March

Moscow believes that Washington and Tehran should resolve all their issues through dialogue — and Russia is ready to help facilitate this process. This was stated by Dmitry Peskov, Press Secretary to the Russian President, in a comment to Bloomberg.

"Russia believes that the US and Iran must resolve all their issues through negotiations," Peskov said, adding that Moscow is prepared to do everything in its power to support this effort.

According to Bloomberg sources, Russia has agreed to assist the US administration in establishing contact with Iran on matters related to Tehran’s nuclear program and its support for forces hostile to Washington in the Middle East. The sources claim that this request was made directly by US President Donald Trump during a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 12, and that the topic was also discussed during talks between Russian and American delegations in Riyadh on February 18.

Russian and Iranian officials did not directly confirm or deny this information when contacted by Bloomberg, and the White House has so far declined to comment.

On February 7, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned that negotiating with the US is futile, citing past deception: Washington signed the 2015 nuclear deal, failed to uphold its commitments, refused to lift sanctions, and unilaterally withdrew from the agreement in 2018.

However, on February 27, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian told the Iranian parliament that negotiations with the US could resume, provided that Washington proves it is capable of honoring agreements.
