Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said a mass rally held in Tehran on January 12 had thwarted hostile plans against Iran and demonstrated the country’s determination to defend its territorial integrity, according to excerpts of his televised address carried by Al Mayadeen.
“The Iranian people delivered a crushing response to the malicious plans of their enemies — serving as a warning to American politicians who rely on deceitful mercenaries,” Pezeshkian said. He added that the “unprecedented” turnout reflected citizens’ vigilance and readiness to protect Iran’s “revolutionary achievements” and religious values.
Pezeshkian thanked participants in the pro-government gathering in central Tehran’s Enghelab Square, saying the event had helped close internal rifts. “This great event put an end to all disagreements and grievances,” he said, adding that Iranians had united to defend national interests and cohesion.
Iran’s Fars news agency reported that around three million people took part in the march through Tehran, and said Pezeshkian — who was described as an initiator of the political event — joined the demonstrators. Similar pro-government rallies were also reported in a number of other cities, including Birjand, Zahedan, Zanjan, Ilam, Kerman, Qom, Rasht, Hamadan and Shahrekord.
