Establishing peace in Afghanistan is impossible without forming an inclusive government which represents the interests of different ethnic groups, political parties and religious movements. Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said this on Tuesday during the 23rd meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of State, held online under the Indian presidency.
"Iran, which has received a huge number of refugees from oppressed Afghanistan, believes that there is no other solution for lasting peace in that country than the formation of an inclusive government composed of all ethnic groups, political parties and religious currents," he said.
Speaking about the situation in Afghanistan, which is a security concern for regional countries, Raisi said Iran is ready to share its experience in fighting terrorism and international drug trafficking with SCO members.
The summit was attended by all the SCO leaders. Apart from that, Iran, Belarus, and Mongolia were invited as observers. Turkmenistan took part as a guest. The summit was also attended by the heads of the SCO Secretariat and its Regional Anti-terrorist Structure. Heads of six international and regional organizations, namely the United Nations, ASEAN, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), were invited.
