10 September

President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov underscored the high level of cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the Russian Federation, which has been successfully fostered across various sectors during a meeting in Bishkek with Russia’s new ambassador to Kyrgyzstan, Sergey Vakunov.

“The president stressed that  relations between Kyrgyzstan and Russia are currently at their highest point in the shared history of the two nations. There has been a significant increase in political, trade, economic, and cultural-humanitarian cooperation between the countries,” stated the Kyrgyz president’s press service. During the meeting, Zhaparov formally accepted the ambassador’s credentials and congratulated him on the start of his diplomatic mission in Kyrgyzstan.

The press service further noted that both governments are “working closely together,” with plans underway to build nine schools in Kyrgyzstan. In addition, the Kyrgyz-Russian Economic Forum will soon be held in the Issyk-Kul region, organized by the Kyrgyz-Russian Development Fund (KRDF), which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.

Zhaparov also highlighted the KRDF's significant role in Kyrgyzstan’s economic development, pointing out that the fund has implemented or is working on nearly 4,000 projects in almost every sector of the economy, with a total value of approximately $640 million. “All these initiatives reflect the truly vibrant, rich, and diverse nature of the relations and cooperation between our countries,” the president stated, according to his press service.

In response, Vakunov emphasized that the successful fulfillment of agreements made at the highest levels between the two nations is “the main criterion by which the work of Russian civil servants and public figures is evaluated.”
