President of Turkmenistan Affirms Commitment to Expanding Cooperation with Russia

Turkmenistan is committed to further developing its multifaceted partnership with Russia, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov stated following talks with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev, according to the official daily Neytralny Turkmenistan.

 

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries. Both sides highlighted the long-term nature of Turkmenistan–Russia relations, describing them as built on equality, trust and mutual respect. They noted effective cooperation not only bilaterally but also within multilateral frameworks, emphasizing reciprocal support for international initiatives at leading organizations such as the UN, CIS, OSCE and others.

 

Key sectors identified for productive trade and economic collaboration include transport, energy, industry and more.

 

Conference margins also hosted a meeting between Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty (People’s Council) of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Russian Federation Council Deputy Chairman Konstantin Kosachev, where the parties discussed strengthening inter-parliamentary ties and their role in ensuring sustainable economic development and fostering broader multilateral relations.

 

 

Chairman Berdimuhamedov also met with Tatarstan’s leader, Rustam Minnikhanov. He noted that Turkmenistan and Tatarstan have established cooperation in the fuel and energy sector, trade, agriculture and cultural-humanitarian fields. The pace of bilateral relations was described as fully matching modern requirements, and both parties agreed there is significant potential for comprehensive long-term cooperation.

 

The Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries is being held in Turkmenbashi from August 5–8, bringing together more than 32 landlocked nations with a combined population exceeding 500 million. The first and second such conferences were held in Almaty (Kazakhstan) in August 2003 and Vienna (Austria) in November 2014, respectively.
