Turkmenistan’s President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a phone call to discuss bilateral cooperation, with a focus on energy projects, according to the official newspaper Neytralny Turkmenistan.
The leaders highlighted productive collaboration across various sectors, including diplomacy, culture, trade, energy, and transport. They reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ties and expanding their partnership.
A key topic of discussion was the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, a high-voltage transmission line, and a fiber-optic communication system linking Turkmenistan and Pakistan via Afghanistan. Sharif expressed Pakistan’s strong interest in deepening cooperation in this area.
The prime minister also extended an invitation for President Berdimuhamedov and the Chairman of the People's Council, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, to visit Pakistan at their convenience.
The TAPI pipeline aims to transport natural gas from Turkmenistan’s Galkynysh field through Afghanistan and Pakistan to India’s Punjab region, with discussions on its construction ongoing since the 1990s.
