President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, accompanied by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, toured the city of Shusha. This visit was part of Tokayev's official trip to Azerbaijan, during which they explored the city's construction and restoration efforts. The press service of Tokayev reported on the tour.
During their visit, the leaders became acquainted with the general plan of Shusha, toured its main sights, including the central square, Saatli Mosque, the high-mountainous meadow Jidir Duzu, the Bul-Bul-Bul house-museum, and a photo exhibition dedicated to the 100th anniversary of national leader Heydar Aliyev.
The press service of Tokayev highlighted that active construction and restoration work are currently being carried out in Shusha. Several hotels, museums, and mosques are already operational, while residential houses, educational, and social institutions are under construction or being repaired.
Shusha was reclaimed by Azerbaijan in November 2020 during the armed conflict in Karabakh. In 2021, the city was designated as the cultural capital of Azerbaijan and granted the status of a state reserve.
Earlier, President Aliyev had announced plans to resettle at least 140,000 people in Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur by the end of 2026.
