Putin Appoints New Ambassador to Sierra Leone

21 October

President Vladimir Putin has appointed Andrey Stolyarov as Russia's new ambassador to Sierra Leone, according to a published presidential decree.

Stolyarov, born in 1964 and holding the diplomatic rank of Minister-Counselor 2nd Class, previously served as Deputy Director of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Africa Department.

The appointment follows the Russian government's December 2024 decision to reopen its embassies in Niger and Sierra Leone, while also establishing a new diplomatic mission in South Sudan.
