Russian President Vladimir Putin informed his Kazakh counterpart Kassym-Jomart Tokayev about recent discussions with Washington regarding Ukraine during a phone call on Thursday, the Kremlin press service reported.
The Russian leader shared details of his August 7 meeting with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, held in “the spirit of Russia-Kazakhstan strategic partnership and alliance relations.” According to the readout, Tokayev expressed appreciation for the update and welcomed efforts toward finding peaceful solutions to the conflict.
The call came shortly after Putin's Kremlin talks with Witkoff, where the two sides reportedly agreed to prepare for an upcoming Russia-US summit. Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov confirmed that work has already begun to organize the leaders' meeting in coming days.
“The presidents also reviewed progress in bilateral economic cooperation, focusing on implementation of major industrial and energy infrastructure projects, expanding mutually beneficial trade ties, preparations for high-level meetings scheduled before year's end,” the statement reads.
