Putin congratulated Mohammed Al Nahyan on his election as president of the UAE

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday in a telephone conversation congratulated Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on his election as president of the UAE, the Kremlin press service reported.


It is noted that Putin, in addition to the previously sent telegram once again personally expressed condolences on the death of the previous UAE President Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.


"Further during the conversation, Vladimir Putin warmly congratulated Mohammed Al Nahyan on assuming the post of ruler of the emirate of Abu Dhabi and his election as president of the UAE," the message reads.


The Kremlin added that the leaders noted with satisfaction the achieved level of strategic partnership between the two countries during their conversation and expressed their mutual desire for further progressive development of friendly Russian-Emirati relations. "Special attention was paid to the issues of interaction in the trade, economic and investment sphere," the statement said.


At the end of the conversation, the heads of states spoke in favor of continuing coordination on topical issues of the international agenda and agreed to maintain contacts at various levels, the Kremlin concluded.


Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan died on May 13 at the age of 73 after a long illness. The country declared national mourning, which will last 40 days, all the time state flags will be lowered. The UAE Supreme Federal Council on Saturday elected Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as the country's new president.
